Operating Zones

Zone 1, 2 (Gas) & Zone 21, 22 (Dust)

1. Maximum Safety Compliance

Rated Ex d IIC T6, this fixture is built to contain any internal spark or flame, preventing it from igniting the surrounding hazardous atmosphere. It is fully certified under ATEX and IECEx schemes, ensuring it meets global legal requirements for volatile environments.

2. Superior Light Performance

With a high efficacy of 120 Lm/W, our floodlights deliver up to 24,000 lumens of crisp, clear light while significantly reducing energy consumption. The wide voltage range (100-277V) ensures stable performance even during voltage fluctuations common in industrial grids.

3. Built for Extreme Conditions
  • Anti-Corrosion (WF2): The housing is treated with a specialized powder coating, making it immune to salt spray, moisture, and chemical vapors—perfect for offshore rigs and marine applications.

  • Fireproof Construction: Manufactured with copper-free aluminum alloy and high-impact tempered glass to withstand extreme thermal stress.

  • Thermal Management: Integrated heat sinks extend the LED lifespan to over 50,000 hours by maintaining a low T6 temperature rating.

Typical Applications

This fixture is the industry standard for Hazardous Areas where flammable gases or combustible dusts are present:

  • Oil & Gas: Refineries, drilling rigs, and petrochemical plants.

  • Energy: Power generation plants and fuel storage facilities.

  • Industrial: Chemical processing, paint spray booths, and grain silos.

  • Marine: Port terminals and offshore platforms.

WHAT IS EXPLOSION PROOF / FIREPROOF/ATEX LIGHTS

Explosion-proof (Ex) lighting is specifically engineered to operate safely in environments where flammable gases, vapors, dust, or fibers are present. Contrary to common belief, "explosion-proof" does not necessarily mean the fixture can survive an external explosion; rather, it is designed to contain an internal explosion and prevent it from igniting the hazardous atmosphere outside the fixture.

A. North American System (NEC/CEC)

Used primarily in the USA and Canada, this system uses Classes, Divisions, and Groups

Category

Definition

Key Examples

Class I

Flammable gases or vapors

Oil refineries, gas plants

Class II

Combustible dusts

Grain elevators, coal mines

Class III

Ignitable fibers and flyings

Textile mills, woodworking

  • Division 1: Hazards exist during normal operating conditions.

  • Division 2: Hazards exist only during abnormal conditions (e.g., a leak or equipment failure)

B. International System (IECEx / ATEX)

Used globally and in Europe, this system uses Zones.

  • Gas (Class I equivalent):

    • Zone 0: Hazard present continuously or for long periods.

    • Zone 1: Hazard likely to occur in normal operation.

    • Zone 2: Hazard unlikely to occur; if it does, it persists for a short time.

  • Dust (Class II equivalent):

    • Zone 20 (Continuous), Zone 21 (Likely), and Zone 22 (Unlikely).

  • Material & Substance Groups

Fixtures are further rated by the specific types of substances they can safely handle.

    Gas Groups (Class I / Zones 0-2)
    • Group A (IIC): Most volatile (e.g., Acetylene).

    • Group B (IIC): Highly volatile (e.g., Hydrogen).

    • Group C (IIB): Medium volatility (e.g., Ethylene).

    • Group D (IIA): Least volatile (e.g., Propane, Gasoline).

Dust Groups (Class II / Zones 20-22)
    • Group E: Metal dusts (Conductive/Explosive).

    • Group F: Carbonaceous dusts (Coal, Charcoal).

    • Group G: Non-conductive dusts (Flour, Grain, Plastic).

  •  Temperature Classes (T-Ratings)

The T-Rating is the maximum surface temperature the light fixture will reach. This must be lower than the ignition temperature of the hazardous materials in the area.

T-Rating

Max Surface Temp

T1

$450^{\circ}\text{C}$

T3

$200^{\circ}\text{C}$

T6

$85^{\circ}\text{C}$ (Safest/Coolest)

Protection Methods
  • Flameproof (Ex d): Heavy-duty housing that contains an internal explosion.

  • Increased Safety (Ex e): Design that ensures no sparks or hot surfaces can occur.

  • Intrinsically Safe (Ex i): Circuits that operate at such low power they cannot ignite the atmosphere.
